Body-Centered Approaches
Change the body, change the mind.
This is not a metaphor. It is how the nervous system actually works. Talk alone has limits. There are things stored in the body that language cannot reach, patterns of activation or shutdown that run underneath thought, underneath insight, underneath the best intentions.
Body-centered work creates state change. Sometimes that means activating energy that has been flattened or suppressed. Sometimes it means slowing down a system that has been running too fast for too long.
And sometimes it is not about changing anything at all. Sometimes it is about learning to be with what is already there. To stop fleeing from it, managing it, or talking around it. Just staying with the actual felt experience of being alive in your body. That capacity, to be with rather than run, is often the thing that has been missing the longest.
Either way, something becomes possible that could not through words alone.
I bring the body into the conversation in almost every piece of work I do. Not as an add-on. As a vital element of working with the whole human. Because you cannot integrate something your body has not been part of.
There are many ways to do this and each has its own function and use. Part of what we do together is find what actually works for you, not what works in theory, but what your specific nervous system responds to. Some people need movement. Some need stillness. Some need breath. Some need to be guided and some need to learn to guide themselves.
The goal is always the same: to bring you back into relationship with your own body, not managing it from a distance but actually living in it.
SOMATIC EXPERIENCING (SE™)
Developed by Peter Levine, SE works with the body's own capacity to complete and release traumatic activation. Rather than reliving or retelling, we work gently with physical sensation to allow the nervous system to find its way back to regulation. Slow, precise, and often quietly profound.
TENSION & TRAUMA RELEASE EXERCISES (TRE®)
Trauma Release Exercises activate the body's natural tremoring mechanism to release deep muscular tension held from chronic stress and trauma. Simple, somatic, and often surprisingly powerful for people who have tried everything else.
BREATHWORK
One of the most direct ways to shift state. The breath is one of the few physiological processes we can consciously influence, and learning to use it deliberately can move what feels stuck, open what has been closed, and bring a dysregulated nervous system back to ground.
